3-Ingredient Fresh Cranberry Sauce

There are two kinds of Thanksgiving people: Those who serve cranberries from a can—and those who don’t. While we love the nostalgia-factor of a tubular cranberry sauce, we’re more likely to serve the fresh version at our own Turkey Day feast. And why not? This fresh cranberry sauce requires only three ingredients and is ready in all of 20 minutes.

This recipe comes courtesy of our food editor’s grandmother’s kitchen (really!), so it’s certified tried-and-true for, well, basically forever. Adjust the amount of sugar you use depending on how tart you like your sauce, and serve it at room temperature or, as we prefer, chilled. Leftovers? Those are for turkey sandwiches.


Ingredients

One 12-ounce bag fresh cranberries

½ cup sugar, plus more as needed

Zest and juice of 1 orange

Directions

1. In a small pot, combine the cranberries, sugar, orange juice and orange zest, and stir to combine.

2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to a simmer and cook until the cranberries pop and the sauce thickens, 15 to 20 minutes. Cool to room temperature or chill before serving.
